SCI Center NEWS!
May 1st, 2009
Dear SCI Patient,
Due to the current situation with the H1N1 (Swine) flu we are taking precautions to limit your possible exposure.
Starting (May 1, 2009) Visitors entering the building will be asked if they have any symptoms, and if so, asked not to visit you. There will be professional nurses at the doors to do this assessment and provide more information. Visitors will also be asked to clean their hands. You may want to notify your visitors ahead of time to expect this, and also may want to limit the number of people coming into the hospital to visit you at this time. If the alert level must be increased, it is possible that visitors will not be allowed in the building at all. We will notify you if this is necessary.

Paralyzed Veterans' 2009 National Veterans Day Poster and Essay Contest
Due October 2, 2009
It is with great pleasure that we announce Paralyzed Veterans of America's sixth annual National Veterans Day Poster and Essay Contest. The theme for this year's contest is: Veterans Day: Why I'm Grateful for Our Nation's Veterans. The contest is open and all entries must be received by October 02, 2009. This deadline will allow time for the entries to be judged and winners to be chosen to attend Paralyzed Veterans of America's Veterans Day celebrations in Washington, DC.
This year the contest will consist of a poster contest for 1st - 4th graders and an essay contest for 5th - 8th graders. The final winner of the poster contest and the essay contest will receive an all-expense paid trip for him/her and one family member to Washington, DC, to participate in Paralyzed Veterans of America's Veterans Day 2009 ceremonies. The winning results will also be featured in PN.
This contest is a great way for kids to learn about veterans and the sacrifices they have made by giving them a creative outlet to express their gratitude for the service of others. Please spread the word about our contest to your local schools, scouts, boys and girls clubs, church groups, families, friends and others whom you think would be interested in participating.
Please visit www.thankyouveterans.org for contest rules or more information. If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to evelynr@pva.org.
19th Annual Teddy Bear Drive
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009
San Diego Horbor Police is the 2009 host agency for the 19th Annual Regional Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive.
This unique and compassion program was originally established by the Coronado Police Department in conjunction with the San Diego Chargers and Children's Hospital. Over the years, interest and support for this event has grown tremendously and is now a law enforcement tradition. The Teddy Bear Drive involves every police, sheriff, state, and federal law enforcement agency in San Diego County.
The Teddy Bear Drive's original focus was to provide bears to children spending time in the hospital during the holiday season with a police caravan of stuffed animals to the hospital in december. in order to spread the Joy of interacting with law enforcemant officers, once a month a diffrent law enforcement agency distributes the teddy bears to the children at the hospital. This allows for more officers to interact with the children and exposes more children to the experience of receiving a teddy bear from an officer. The teddy bears are also distributed all year long by hospital staff. One bear can make a difference in a child's eyes and can enhance the healing process. The goal is to keep Rady Children's Hospital stocked all year long with new unused teddy bear and stuffed animals.
Please note that due infection control among recipients, donated items must be new and unused with the purchase tag still attached.
Monetary donations are also accepted and enable organizers to purchase high volumes of teddy bears at a discounted price from participating vendors and businesses. If you are interested in providing a monetary donation, hosting a community collection event, or for more information, please contact:
