Cal-Diego PVA Trailer Propsal PDF
Mission:
“The mission is to improve the quality of life for disabled veterans, and others, by the use of introduction, familiarization, and instruction of recreational and competitive driving.”
Cal-Diego PVA is dedicated to providing a safe and effective driving program. While carrying out our mission, we hope to foster appreciation and respect for superior driving skills and encourage participation in the sport of competitive driving.
Assets:
We have a half-mile course on 40 acres with direct access to Bureau of Land Management.
We own a Rally car, spec truck, and the use of a racing truck (on loan for instructional purposes).
3 instructors:
Lance Magin- Instructional capabilities with 35 years of professional off-road racing background (utilizing adapted vehicles).
Duane Norman- Disabled Veteran. Instructional capabilities with over 40 years of road racing background (utilizing adapted vehicles).
Mic Halbert- Vehicle maintenance and driving instruction. Veteran with 10 years of racing.
We have affiliations with:
McMillin- Realty, construction, automotive racing. Our trailer will be stored at McMillin Racing in El Cajon.
Meguiars- Car care products. The sales representative will promote our program to commercial customers/sponsors.
Ability Center- Have committed to install lift however we may go with a ramp/platform option.
Raceland USA- Possible new home for our program. 1,100 acres of various types of tracks/courses with man-made lakes and camping accommodations.
C-5/Medhold- Walter Reed of the West. Great source of participants and public relations.
San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation.
Bilstein/Bret Norgaard. Active competitor and promoter of Rally based motor sports.
-$37,000 cash remaining from original grant.
Future;
Introduce disabled drivers to local competitive and experienced interactive based motor sports programs and events.
Encourage our students to participate in sanctioned motor sports events.
Encourage additional PVA chapters, and other disabled organizations, to participate in this unique program in their local areas.
There are also some Vocational Rehab benefits to this program. The title sponsor can provide a Vocational Rehab program that would teach mechanics, engineering skills, etc to disabled vets and certify them to acquire gainful employment.
We need:
2 rally cars, 2 racing trucks, and a vehicle to tow our race car trailer.
Identify a permanent training facility. Do we continue to improve our current facility or do we wait until Raceland USA is available?
Secure storage for vehicles. Must be in a convenient location and provide amenities to facilitate appropriate maintenance. Are vehicles stored in San Diego for easy access for maintenance or do we keep them near/at the training facility to avoid excessive transportation costs?
Operational funds. Are there grants available?
