Bob Webb Excellence in a Newsletter Award.
Editor Gallaway points out that the design of the publication is an evolving process. “The feel of the newsletter is meant to be upbeat and inviting to the reader,” she says. “Simple techniques such as repetition of shape and utilization of color make the spread more pleasing to the eye. The page layout is balanced and intended to keep the eye moving.”
She also says the percentage of news in each issue has increased over the past year. The March 2006 issue had 16 pages, 7 of which were of informational value. “The most recent newsletter consists of 24 pages, of which 17 are information rich,” she says.
The Webb Award was created by PVA’s Board of Directors to honor the late Robert L. Webb, PN editor from 1963 to 1978, and to recognize excellence in a chapter newsletter. Entries are judged on quality of content, format, design, and appearance, consistency of reporting on chapter and national activities, relevance to PVA members, timeliness of copy, original and creative reporting, and overall improvements from prior years.
