PVA Sailing Regatta
Capt. Jack Sparrow – in Pirates of the Caribbean – said, “a sailboat is not just a mast or sails or a rudder; a sailboat is freedom”. For those with a disability that significantly limits their mobility on land, that statement is a reality.
PVA and Challenged Sailors San Diego invite you to a sailing day on the bay, utilizing a fleet of eight Martin 16 sailboats specifically designed for adaptive sailing. Learning the skills to maneuver a boat on San Diego Bay provides a sense of confidence, autonomy, and accomplishment that can have a significant positive effect on the sailors’ lives.
Sign in and sailing class at 11am
Sailing 12 noon to 3:00 or 3:30, followed by refreshments and celebrating.
The facilities are accessible and equipped with a lift for transferring sailors from wheelchairs into the boat.
We can rig the boat with a special Power Assist unit to enable both steering and trimming of the sails via a small electric joystick (similar to those often used on power wheelchairs) or a Sip and Puff mouthpiece.
We sail from Sunroad Marina, 955 Harbor Island Drive, at Dock D (on the far left of the Marina), San Diego, CA
For parking enter the Sunroad Marina parking lot and take a ticket, CSSD will get it validated and returned to you before you leave.
Everyone participating should arrive at 12 NOON and meet at the entrance to Dock D. We go down to the docks as a group. Please bring hat, sunglasses, water and sunscreen. And be ready to have a GREAT time sailing!
